Arlyn Lund

October 4, 1938 — November 13, 2022

Arlyn Leroy Lund was born on a farm north of Anita on October 4th, 1938. He was the son of George and Bertha (Bauer) and passed away on November 13th, 2022 at Caring Acres in Anita at the age of 84.

Arlyn was baptized and confirmed at the Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Anita and attended Grant #3 Rural School in Cass County. He graduated with the class of 1956 at Anita High School. After school, he joined the Army Reserve and attended basic training at Ft. Leonardwood, MO where he earned a medal in riflery. He then worked in Des Moines for two years before returning home to farm with his dad.

On November 12, 1960, he was united in marriage to Marjorie Beitz at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Massena. To this union, five children were born: Dori, Rance, Kristi, Wendi, and Randy. Arlyn was a loving father and taught his children many things.

In 1976, Arlyn left farming and opened his own business Lund’s Welding in Anita. He had a tremendous passion for welding and working with his hands. Arlyn became known for his successful manufacturing of hay rings, boot jacks, and was the inventor and proprietor of the patented Lund Mower Wash.

Arlyn was deeply committed to serving the community by helping area farmers with their various repair needs and provided quality seed to our community farmers over the decades. In his later years, Arlyn was proud to offer sales and support for the Walker Mower company. Arlyn took great pride in working for the Department of Natural Resources at Lake Anita State Park and was Anita’s mail carrier for the United States Postal Service until his retirement.

Arlyn loved Anita and was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the Anita Development Association, Chamber of Commerce, and was a member of the Anita Airport Board of Directors. Arlyn’s artistic and creative contributions live on with the compass in front of the old Weathervane Cafe.
