Norma Turner

July 3, 1929 — September 22, 2021

Norma Turner, 92, of Stuart, Iowa, and formerly of Anita, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, September 22, 2021, at the Stuart Community Care Center.

Norma was born July 3, 1929, at Centinela Hospital in Inglewood, CA to Robert and Effie Duff. When she was 3 years old her family moved to a Farm near Silver City, IA in Mills County. In 1940 they moved to Eureka township South of Berea, IA. During her youth Norma attended country schools and graduated from Anita High School in 1946. After graduation Norma taught country school at Eureka Center.

On June 1st, 1947, Norma married Marvin Scholl at her parents’ home near Berea, IA. Norma then taught at Maple Grove School until spring 1948. Norma and Marvin had 2 children Nancy born in 1948 and Robert born in 1952. Marvin and Norma farmed the Scholl farm south of Anita until Marvin’s death in 1985.

Norma moved to Papillion, NE for a short period of time before finding her passion working as a supervisor with the cognitively disabled in Des Moines, IA. She married Neil Turner on February 3rd, 1990 and they moved back to the Scholl farm where they lived until 2000 when they moved to Atlantic.

Norma loved to travel. She would tell stories of trips that she and Marvin and later Neil took. While traveling she would often collect spoons from the various places that they visited.

Norma was preceded in death by her father, Robert Duff; mother, Effie "Wilson" Duff; husbands, Marvin Scholl and Neil Turner; daughter, Nancy Hansen; daughter-in-law, Sharon Turner; brothers, Arthur Duff and Lee Duff.

She is survived by her son, Bob (Becky) Scholl; son-in-law, David (Linda) Hansen; stepsons, Rudy Turner, Ron (Dee) Turner, and Rex (Kathy) Turner; 18 grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren.

Memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 2, 2021 at the First Presbyterian Church in Adair, IA. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service also held at the church. Following the memorial service a luncheon will be provided in the church fellowship room. Burial will take place following the luncheon at Evergreen Cemetery in Anita, IA.

Memorials may be directed to First Presbyterian Church in honor of Norma, and will be designated for auto & visual equipment. They can be left or mailed to the church at 405 5th St. Adair, IA 50022.
