Robert “Bob” Armstrong, age 78 of Atlantic, Iowa, died at his home in Atlantic on Tuesday, October 12, 2021. He was born in Atlantic on November 18, 1942, to Gail and Glendale (Grennell) Armstrong. He grew up on what is now the Armstrong Research Farm west of Lewis, IA. Bob received his education in Lewis, and later graduated from Griswold High School in 1961.
On November 26, 1966, Bob was united in marriage to Mary Landon in Atlantic. In January of 1972, Bob had a Kidney Transplant. They lived on a farm west of Lewis until moving to Atlantic in 1991. He worked for many years at George’s Auto Electric as well as owning his own lawn service until it was sold in 1993. Bob’s next adventure was Bob’s Mower Clinic which he owned for over 12 years, then went to work for The Car Guys. He also enjoyed talking shop and helping customers until his retirement in 2019 due to his failing health.
Bob’s other passions were riding his bicycle, and his motorcycle as well which included a trip to Denver, CO. He was a lover of the tractor rides and driving his antique tractor across southwest Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister-in-law, Alene Meyer and brothers-in-laws, Dennis Meyer and Tom Harry. He is survived by his wife, Mary Armstrong of Atlantic; sisters, Lois (Don) Welliver of Kansas City, MO and Alice (Steven) Frechette of St. Cloud, MN; brother, John (Christine) Armstrong of Omaha, NE; sister-in-laws, Shiela Harry of Omaha, NE and Lucia (Larry) Kinnison of Oakland, IA; many nieces, nephews, Aunts, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11 am, Monday, October 18th, 2021, at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Atlantic with Rev. Garry DeGeest officiating. Visitation will be held with the family present on Sunday, October 17, 2021, from 5 pm till 7 pm at the funeral home. Memorials can be made in his name and will be designated at a later date. Following the services, a luncheon will take place at the Community Room of Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Atlantic all are welcome to attend.
